IN BRIEF Named after James Scott, a government surveyor who explored the then unknown north-east hinterland in 1852.

The settlement was first known (unofficially) as Coxçs Paradise, after Thomas Cox a Launceston miller who owned land in the area.

The first official name was Ellesmere.

The name was changed to Scottsdale in 1863.

Scottsdale is amid some of the richest agricultural country in the state, and is the centre of the pine forest industry.
